Happy 11th Birthday Morley 0

The Cromwell Family are taking an RDO (Rostered Day Off) to celebrate Moe’s birthday. Here is Morley with her birthday present this morning and a picture Alison just took of the girls having a ride around the front paddock.

The big surprise is yet to come. Bella wanted some sort of surprise for her sister and a surprise party was not getting parental enthusiasm. So Bella Boo organised a special treat of her own–a private horse riding lesson on the beach near Lennox Head. More Morley birthday news to come.

Large Black cross Berkshire 0

Last night we let Barney have a sleep over in the girls pig yard. He had been confined to the cattle race and lower yard for the last week getting ready for his big night out. Turned out the morning was pretty good for him too. When Morley and I went out to feed the animals this morning he made him self very comfortable on top of Gypsy. Not sure his aim was so good but we are pretty sure he got the job done. Although the word on the street was 3 days after weaning, Gypsy only started to push back yesterday so that was about day 5. We will keep an eye on her in 3 weeks time and fingers crossed Barney will not want anything to do with her.

Next cab off the ranks is Babe who should be cycling this Thursday. Quite a learning experience and I highly recommend taking advantage of animal breeding as a great way to give children hands on sex education. It makes it allot easier to see things first hand in the animal world then sitting down with a book talking about the birds and the bees.

Are you ready yet?

Barney meet Gypsy 0

With Gypsy weaned it’s time to see if we can get her in pig again. Yesterday, under the supervision of Super Steve Rixon, we introduced Barney the Berkshire Bore to our Large Black Sow and all seems to be going to plan. Morley mentioned to me this morning that “he was doing his work” and she wanted to know when Babe could have a go.

Meet Dan the Dexter/Jersey 0

Our second calf of the year. The wait is finally over. We stopped milking our Big Girl months ago in anticipation of this calf. Turns out the girl did not come with one in the Oven. Our Dexter Bull Lowco got to her and has given us a beautiful black calf. Milking times coming back real soon.

Piglets Weaned 0

After a big day of fine tuning the pig fences and gates with our Farm Hand Brad we were able to put all the piglets in lock down. Perfect timing too as the new piglets had started to work their way onto the milk train and were latching onto Gypsy.

We are a bit ahead of the schedule Bogo had suggested for weaning but something told me it was time. The fact that we have customers waiting on five weaners was another motivating factor.

The game plan now is to put Barney the Berkshire Boar over Gypsy on Friday and a few goes on the weekend to make sure. Then in another week Babe will be ready for Barney too.

Christmas Ham Road Trip 0

About to head out Grafton way to beef up our pig herd. We have a little Berkie boar and sow ready to go and I am hoping to score a larger pig to fatten up for Christmas.

Anyone want to join me on my adventure? Looks like I will be flying solo as the girls are all booked out for horse riding and friends visiting.

Barn Restoration Hoe Down-Rod Bottrell 0

Next time I am back in Canada I am going to book this talented Guitarist, his brother and Dad to play at a restoration celebration in Chatham. Ok so it might be a barn painting party too.

Go the Yakety Breakdown. Good work Rod and good luck with entering this video in the Sleepwalk Guitar Festival to be curated by Luke Doucet.

Natural Horse Work 0

Aubrey, Morley and Bella are loving working with their horses more then ever. The learning and experience they are getting from working with their Mum and Louise (their instructor) is amazing. Pictured below are Bella and Morley warming their horses up on the long line. After this we all mounted up bare back and had a little session in our ‘horse arena’ paddock. Looking forward to more riding with the girls this week.
