Porter Lake Pictures by Jon Sturge 0

Here are some photographs from Jon Sturge, a good friend of Porter Lake, who captured some special moments when he visited the cabin at the end of the summer this year.

Happy 11th Birthday Morley 0

The Cromwell Family are taking an RDO (Rostered Day Off) to celebrate Moe’s birthday. Here is Morley with her birthday present this morning and a picture Alison just took of the girls having a ride around the front paddock.

The big surprise is yet to come. Bella wanted some sort of surprise for her sister and a surprise party was not getting parental enthusiasm. So Bella Boo organised a special treat of her own–a private horse riding lesson on the beach near Lennox Head. More Morley birthday news to come.

Barn Restoration Hoe Down-Rod Bottrell 0

Next time I am back in Canada I am going to book this talented Guitarist, his brother and Dad to play at a restoration celebration in Chatham. Ok so it might be a barn painting party too.

Go the Yakety Breakdown. Good work Rod and good luck with entering this video in the Sleepwalk Guitar Festival to be curated by Luke Doucet.

Natural Horse Work 0

Aubrey, Morley and Bella are loving working with their horses more then ever. The learning and experience they are getting from working with their Mum and Louise (their instructor) is amazing. Pictured below are Bella and Morley warming their horses up on the long line. After this we all mounted up bare back and had a little session in our ‘horse arena’ paddock. Looking forward to more riding with the girls this week.

Mullumbimby Show Preparation 0

The Four Girl Dexter Stud is getting ready for its 3rd Mullumbimby Show this November (not sure about the date–their site has not been updated). Better get on that.

Speaking of getting on–the girls are already preparing their cows and took the time yesterday to write down some notes on the cows they want to take and the work that needs to go into them. It’s great to have some help with content for the blog too. Thanks Aubrey, Morley and Bella. Can’t wait for the show…when ever it is.

Cromwell Farms

Show cows:

Annabelle (black heifer)- Annabelle is the 2nd daughter of Abaliena and the sire is Twin-Bull. She was also the first calf born in our first lot of calves.

Annabelle has great structure and a good straight flat back. Annabelle’s stance is also one of her strong points and she has a good muscular hindquarter. She also has a good temper is easy to groom and is okay to lead. Annabelle needs to be either clipped or needs her baby fur needs to fall off.

Rosy (red heifer)- Rosy is the 1st daughter of Reanna and the sire is also Twin-Bull. She was the second calf born out of our first lot of calves.
Rosy is a rare colour and has a great stance and udder. She has a good temper and is a pretty sound cow. She is good at walking, tracking and has a very feminine face but she needs to build up her hindquarters and get rid of the two warts on her eyebrow.

Chip (black bull calf)- Chip is the 1st son of Condalisa and the sire is Twin-Bull. He is the 1st calf of the second lot of calves.

Chip is still young so it’s hard to find his faults but he need lots of work on leading, being tied up and groomed. But Chip has a good solid structure and a big set of balls. His got a good personality and is good at tracking.

Azalea (black heifer)- Azalea has had one calf Archer.

Azalea is our showgirl, she wins lots of carnivals but she is only good at the carnivals, she doesn’t go well in practice.

Forever in Blue Jeans Neil Diamond 0

Over the last few weeks I got to log plenty of miles on the road going back and forth between Chatham, Toronto, North Bay and of course Marine City. The radio in the Jeep I rented cranked out some pretty good sound and there are a few classics still stuck in my mind. This is one of them. As a kid I loved listening over and over to a reel tape at the cottage and ole Neil was a big part of that. Forever a Neil Diamond fan.

Barn Renovations 0

Exciting times on Gregory Line. Such a small world too–have a long story to tell about the swell blokes who are working magic in the barn but can’t wait to share the shots they took yesterday. This is going to be a great room for storing our Presso stock for Canada/USA and an office for Bush Branding & Marketing. Oh and I cant’ forget an exercise room too for my Mum and Thor.

Here are the pictures and the email I woke up to this morning.

Greg:

Here are three photos of our progress last night. Hope to have the ceiling
complete tonight which should only leave the doors to insulate. Hope you
like it. We couldn’t help but hang that wooden gun and a few nick nacks to
make it look homey.

Cheers
Dave Timmermans

Time for a cold beer. The ceiling is in. Wish I could use a Star Trek transporter to join the boys for a Steam Whistle or two.

The Orchard 0

Growing up my sister and I loved to play in the orchard. There was an old pig pen which we played in when we were little. Then when we got ‘big’ and had a motor bike to drive around we did laps of the orchard and the highlight was the hog wollow which made a great jump.

My Mum mentioned she recalls Old Mike (the dog) having guarding the orchard to stop people from stealing all the ripe apples. Some of the types of trees my Mum recalls are Baldwin, Russet, Spye, Snow and Pumpkin Sweet.

Fresh Corn and Steam Whistle 0

I have been asked on many occasions what do I miss about living in Canada since the move to Australia. Of course being close to family and friends is at the top of the list; followed very closely by, Fresh food from the farm and Steam Whistle. Might have to smuggle some corn and Steam back with me in a couple of weeks.

What a pair.

Is it Supper time again yet?
