With our first milking girl Condamine coming to her anniversary of milking and now in calf we will be relying on our Milking Cross to keep us in Dairy for the next few months. After that though we will be without a Dexter to milk and provide us (and our friends) with milk, cream, butter, ice cream, yogurt and cheese. Alison has taken my buying shackles off to see if we can find another cow with calf to fill the gap. Please contact us if you have a Dexter Heifer with calf for sale. We are open to pure bred or crosses as long as their is Dexter in Read More
We started the process of tagging the cows yesterday. Got through our first pack of 10 pairs of tags and seem to have misplaced our second box. Off to get some more today so we can finish the job. Amazing what a difference a pair of purple floppy ear rings makes–bye bye you dirty Buffalo flies. Will be sure to take the takes off as prescribed.
We had hoped to enter the show ring in Bangalow but just did not have the energy after the Mullumbimby Show. This however did not stop Alison from entering some Dexter by products. With all the yummy milk we are pulling by hand from our girls each morning Alison has been experimenting with making butter, cheese and most recently yogurt. The Biggest Little Show in Australia was the perfect way for the biggest little cows (our Dexters) to get their start in the show ring. Once again we cannot thank Judith and Terry Hill from Margrita Dexters for showing us the ropes and helping us get prepared. Another big thanks to all the volunteers who brought the Mullum Show back to life this year. Tony from the Mullumbimby Rural Cooperative and Phil headed up the cattle section. Great work.
Here are a few of the many pictures taken on the day. As you will see we came home with some ribbons. We could not be prouder of our Read More
Four Girl Dexter Stud has entered its first show. Visit us at the Mullumbimby Show today.
A big thanks to Nighean and Andrew from Bush Marketing for designing our logo, making a banner and getting this website up in less then 24 hours. Another big thank you to Judith and Terry Hill (Margrita Dexters) who sold us our first four cows almost a year ago and got us started. Not to mention Judith has come down from their Stud in Queensland to help Morley prepare and give a go at her first show. Go Moe Go.
