Tuesday February 22 was a monumental day for our Dexter cattle stud. Our friend and my fencing boss Peter McDonald, a serious cattle man and farmer, loaded up our five Dexter Steers and we shifted them to his brother’s small acreage near Casino to do some much needed lawn mowing. What makes this such an occasion is that it affirmed Pete’s approval of our little cattle who are often a source of amusement to folks. Yes lots of small, minature and runt type jokes.
Nice to have the steers close to the meat works in Casino and getting some good non-coastal grass into their bellies. Before we shifted them I gave them the required drench with Genesis Ultra pour-on. Turned out it might have been more pleasant for the calves if I drenched them after the trip. That stuff sure works fast.
