Visit Ulmarra

Just 15 minutes north of Grafton, this historic, little river town is a long way from the hustle and bustle of the highway. Enjoy the peace and beauty of the mighty Clarence River in your back garden. It is generally accepted that 'Ulmarra' is a local Aboriginal word meaning "bend in the river" and the River House is the perfect place to sit and watch the river roll by.

With a population under 1000, the town’s main street is home to creative boutiques, artisan craft stores and galleries – making it the perfect combo of country hospitality and quirky cool. And the former port town is home to the glorious Ulmarra Pub, which opened in 1906, was used in the television series 'Fields of Fire' (as a 1929 Queensland pub) and has been faithfully restored to honour its Federation style.

The splendid, annual Jacaranda Festival is close by in late October/early November each year – click here, but year round, you and your family can escape here to do a little or a lot. Apart from the pub and unique shops and galleries, the River House is close to excellent bass fishing, canoeing, National Parks and birdwatching.
