BUSH REGENERATION PROJECTS
Goonengerry, NSW
Restoring Rainforests and Reviving Country in Northern NSW
For over two decades, Cromwell Farms has been nurturing the land and helping it heal. Since the early 2000s, we’ve been deeply involved in bush regeneration across Northern NSW, replanting native rainforest species and restoring vital ecosystems that once covered the region.
Our work is part of a growing movement – a shared belief that caring for the land means more than sustainable farming; it means helping the bush come back to life.
Goonengerry: Regeneration in Action
One of our most significant projects lies at our Goonengerry farm in the Northern Rivers region of NSW.
In 2020, we planted 2,500 native rainforest seedlings, carefully selected to reflect the natural diversity of the Big Scrub — once the largest subtropical rainforest in Australia.
Five years on, the transformation is inspiring. The planting included a diverse mix of pioneer and mature-phase rainforest species, designed to recreate the natural succession process that defines a healthy forest. Native groundcovers stabilised the soil and prevented erosion, while canopy trees were positioned to provide shade and habitat as they matured.
What began as sparse farmland has grown into a flourishing young rainforest, with emerging canopies, rich understory, and the sound of native birds returning to their restored habitat. Butterflies and microbats now frequent the site, and local rainfall capture has improved as the vegetation regenerates.

Working Together for the Rainforest
In partnership with Rainforest Rescuers, Rainforest 4 Foundation, and the Gondwana Rainforest Trust, we’re proud to support large-scale rainforest restoration and native revegetation projects.
These collaborations bring together passionate ecologists, local communities, and farmers who all share one goal – to protect and regenerate the remnants of the ancient Gondwana Rainforests of Australia.
Each seedling we plant contributes to a living network of forest corridors that reconnect wildlife habitat, protect waterways, and restore biodiversity to the landscape.
We see bush regeneration as a long-term promise. A promise to the land, to the wildlife, and to future generations.
Our ongoing commitment includes:
- Habitat restoration through replanting and weed management
- Wildlife corridor creation linking neighbouring regeneration zones
- Ongoing monitoring to track biodiversity and forest growth’
- Community involvement through planting days and open farm events
Our goal is to create a landscape that thrives without constant human intervention — a self-sustaining ecosystem where native species can return, flourish, and reproduce naturally. This kind of ecological restoration takes patience, persistence, and partnership, but the rewards are visible in every leaf, branch, and birdsong.
Every tree we plant is a step toward a healthier, more resilient landscape — proof that when nature is given a chance, it knows exactly how to recover.
