For over two decades we’ve run our family farms in Northern NSW and have always believed in doing things simply, honestly, and in rhythm with the land. More often than not, simplicity reigns and less is more.
That’s why we chose to focus on Dexter cattle: a modest, hearty breed with little maintenance but a lot to offer.
These compact cattle have become part of the everyday fabric of life on our two farms—Goonengerry and Glenugie Station—and we’re proud to offer them for sale through The Three Girl Stud Margrita Dexters.
We’re also on the lookout to BUY quality Dexters too – if this is you please get in touch.
A Small Breed, But Big on Practicality
Dexters are a rare heritage breed originally from Ireland, and their small size is one of their biggest advantages.
They eat less, do less damage to pastures, and are easier to handle than standard cattle.
On our Goonengerry farm, they’re managed alongside veggies, heritage poultry, and everything else we fit into 40 acres. At Glenugie, they roam larger paddocks and help regenerate neglected land.
They’re also ideal for small-acreage farmers, families new to livestock, or anyone trying to make the most of a mixed farm setup.
Good Temperament, Solid Genetics
The herd we’ve built on comes from the original Margrita Dexter Stud—known for its solid genetics, structural soundness, and calm temperament. No dwarfism, strong fertility, and excellent maternal traits have been hallmarks of this line for over 25 years.
These aren’t just pretty words—we’ve raised these animals ourselves, alongside our three daughters, and many of them can be hand-fed or led with a halter. It’s that kind of gentle, consistent handling that makes the difference for buyers looking to start or expand a herd.
Meat, Milk, and Easy-Keepers
Dexters are a true dual-purpose breed. The beef is tender, well-marbled, and ideal for pasture-raised cooking. (We use it in everything from burgers to beef ragu) They’re also good milkers, with rich milk that’s well-suited to small-scale cheese and yogurt making.
The efficiency they bring to a regenerative or low-input system makes them more than just “small cattle”—they’re a smart solution for sustainable farming.
